DESCRIPTION (as provided by vendor)
Willowcroft Seduction aka ‘Sammy’
13.3hh Registered Australian Riding Pony 8yo Bay Gelding.
Sammy has exceptional breeding. Sired by the very famous Willowcroft Regal Emblem and out of Willowcroft Regal Affair (full sister to champion show galloway Willowcroft Chance Encounter). Sammy is full brother to Willowcroft Secret Affair, Willowcroft Royal Honour and Willowcroft Royal Acclaim.
Sammy has lots of energy, beautiful movement and a spirited personality. He has been bred for showing and is Newcomer’s eligible. He could also be suited to games as he loves a fast gallop, can turn on a dime and has great coordination and balance. I personally haven’t jumped him, but he may enjoy this too.
Sammy is a quick learner. He is easy to catch, shoe and float. He puts up with worming but doesn’t enjoy it. He never fails to greet you at the gate with a welcoming whinny. He is up to date with teeth and farrier. He has been fully vaccinated against Hendra/Tetanus/Strangles but is currently due for this year’s vaccination boosters. He is Microchipped. Sammy is very sound. He’s a good doer, but very much loves his food. He has never suffered from any conditions such as laminitis, thrush, skin conditions etc. Despite limited riding he has always managed to keep himself quite fit and muscled. He’s good with his rugs when he’s wearing them, but if you take it off and leave it within his reach then he will drag it around the paddock.
Sammy has been irregularly ridden by myself (a small adult) on the property where he lives with weeks or months in between rides. He has not been ridden at all for the last 18 months. I have had riding lessons on him, but I have not ridden him in any formal equestrian events. I have found Sammy to have a soft mouth and to be beautifully responsive under saddle to leg and seat aids and very capable of excellent upwards and downwards transitions with a minimum of physical effort from me. I have never fallen off him, but he has tended to be nervous and to shy a bit on the windier days and I have found it beneficial to lunge him before riding to get some energy out.
Sammy needs an experienced home where he will be ridden regularly by an experienced and confident rider. At this stage he is not suitable for children or beginners. He needs an experienced handler who insists on good manners during groundwork, as he can be strong on the lead if you let him. I have found a rope halter and long lead rope to work best for him.
Sammy is being sold as he has a huge amount of potential that will only be realised through much more regular riding than I can find the time for. I originally bought him with the intent that my children and I would all ride our ponies together and my children would eventually progress on to Sammy. Although he is very loved, due to my children’s disinterest in riding he will not be able to progress with his education while he remains with us being ridden so infrequently. With his great breeding and potential he really deserves to be progressing, going places and having fun.
